8 is Great!

Because Steve and I knew we were going to be gone on Jack's actual 8th birthday (which is a pretty big birthday in Mormon culture), we wanted to be sure that he knew we still wanted to make it a big deal, so we gave him a low-key birthday party with my family and some neighbor friends he invited over on the Saturday before we left.

He's been obsessed with Pokemon lately, and so naturally his cake had to be Pokemon themed.  Steve and I did a pretty decent job, if you ask me!
At least, Jack seemed to think so!

Blew out all the candles on the very first try!

For his presents, he got a Pokemon watch as well as a set of 8 Pokemon books.  Don't be fooled--the kid had already read through all eight of them before Monday...he LOVES to read.  No idea where he gets that from. *shifty eyes*

While we were gone, of course Molly and my mom (being the amazing women they are) had a huge celebration on the day of his actual birthday--he opened up a couple of other little presents we'd left him, as well as some Star Wars cupcakes and birthday-cake flavored ice cream.  When we FaceTimed him that night, he seemed more than happy with how his birthday had been celebrated, thank goodness, as this momma was feeling pretty guilty about missing his actual birthday.

Now to finish up baptism preparations, which, for anyone who is interested in attending, will be at 2:00 at the Centennial Stake Center on Saturday, April 8th.  I still can't believe I have a child old enough to be getting baptized, but I am SO proud of this awesome kiddo and his decision to be baptized.  What an exciting experience!
Love you, Jack!
