After we had first found out I was pregnant, we were walking in Target one day and found one of these home-listening devices that you can put on your tummy in order to hear the baby's heartbeat--basically, a glorified stethescope. Steve was excited, and since it was only 20 dollars, we decided to splurge and get it. We've used it before to listen to the baby, and although we couldn't hear his heartbeat per se, we could hear every time he moved and especially when he kicked--it was kind of funny to see when he kicked directly under the moniter and you could see it jump at the same time you heard it thump....But we were never able to find his heartbeat, until last night.
Steve had been laying with his head on my tummy, and he thought he could hear a heartbeat, but it seemed too slow to be the baby's. So we got out the device, strapped it on, and moved it over to where the baby seemed to be laying. Although the heartbeat Steve originally heard was actually my pulse, we moved it a little more to the left, and heard one that was beating twice as fast as mine! What do you know, the darn thing worked after all!!
It was actually really neat. The heartbeat actually sounded like a little heartbeat, not the whooshing sound you hear at the Doctor's office, and to sit there and hear his heartbeat in the comfort of our own home was quite a treat for both of us. I feel so blessed to know that our baby is healthy and strong, and to be able to feel him move. Although at times it gets maybe a little bit irritating because he is SO hyper, it's such a comfort to know that he is still doing well. So I have to remind myself of that fact, even when he's moving so much it literally makes me sick! At least he's moving, right?
