Now, for the post I promised a month ago--Calvin's first week home!
After getting his second hearing test, Steve changed Calvin into his coming-home outfit while I changed into my coming home outfit (anyone else actually feel more comfortable in the hospital gowns, or is it just me?)
He didn't originally seem too excited about his first venture out into the world:
But he did pretty well about hanging out in his car seat for the forty-five minutes it took to drive him home in the snow.
While we were packing him up, Jack took advantage of the snow (and the snow day--yay for no school!) to create his own little message for Calvin. And by "little," I mean that it spanned four houses' worth of street area. It had melted by the time we got home, which made Jack sad, but we assured him that we'd seen the picture of it and were thoroughly impressed with his efforts.

The kids absolutely adore Calvin, and often argue over who gets to hold him next...

Me explaining how burping functions, while Daliah and my three kids watch carefully...

Their first moment meeting him was more magical than Christmas morning. It was pretty fun.

Jack was SO proud of the fact that he could hold him without help!

Clark was pretty thrilled, but a little nervous,

And Maggie has just been happy to have someone to mother to her heart's content.

This kid, though. Am I wearing Mom goggles, or is he not just beautiful?
We had our fair share of visitors that first week, too--Uncle Abe,
Uncle McKay,
and his Great-Grandma Flake:
Jack has had a BLAST being my official baby-holder. He's so strong and SO good and patient with Calvin--even when he cries, Jack isn't ruffled a bit. He's told me proudly, "Every time Calvin cries, I just say, 'It's okay, it's okay,' over and over again, and he stops crying!"
Apparently I need to take Jack's parenting advice...I'm not always quite so great at calming the kiddo, haha.
Maggie has been wearing curlers quite often now that she discovers how pretty her hair looks afterwards--Clark decided he wanted to try!
Doing manicures....
Calvin's Grandpa and Nana Busch came up for a quick weekend visit, and it was love at first sight:
Nana was in heaven holding her little pea pod.
There's just something so special about grandparents and newborns, isn't there?
Aunt Julieann held him while cousins Reese and Brooke looked on....Julieann was pretty baby-hungry, but Uncle Andrew, not so much!
Curious cousins!
Maggie and Reese were thick as thieves, and I had to snap this adorable picture of them playing together. Not gonna lie, Busch babies are just cute!!
Andrew, performing daddy duties. It's so fun seeing Steve's brother as such a good daddy to two little girlie girls!
Speaking of daddies--Steve has been phenomenal. I don't know if he's just a pro now that he's had four kids, or if working in the OB department of the local hospital for five weeks gave him more experience, but he has been my baby whisperer--more confident than I ever remember him being before. Calvin and he have such a powerful bond--it is such a fun thing for me to see!
Newborns wear you out, man.
So there's Cal's first week home!! We're sure lucky to have FOUR amazing kids!!
